Organisational and individual counselling

When to consider counselling for any member:

  • Under-performance that seems to be an 'attitude' thing that has resisted correction so far.
  • When someone is clearly distressed.
  • When someone asks for such help
  • Immediately (minutes) following personal psychological or physical trauma, or threat of physical trauma.

Some organisations have found it worthwhile to provide access to psychological or counselling services for their employees, and even their families.

Such a supportive service is not linked to the organisation’s profit outcome, although it usually has beneficial outcomes for the sponsoring organisation. It is often attached to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) sometimes with access to limited financial and legal advice, on the understanding that a troubled worker is less effective - regardless of the source of trouble.

Counselling (by Ian Johnson) and mediation (by Lesley Johnson) can be made available to staff members on troubling matters - be they about work or private. The organisation receives a general report about useage that does not identify members using.

A note about psychological and counseling services at work.

Most employees do not want to admit to seeing a counselor or Psychologist, nor be 'discovered' doing so.

It helps for an organisation to have a standing relationship with an appropriate psychologist. I have found that an employee or executive more readily talks to me if he/she already knows me. It helps if I can be approached on the job for perfectly legitimate business reasons before their 'real' issues emerge. Issues can then be handled much more early.

Alternatively, I can arrange with them to see them outside business hours and off premises.

This type of service has been known to lower anxiety, identify and reduce depression, and has even defused suicide intentions (research reports).

Organisation-based psychology is about helping good things happen to both the organisation, and its members

Contact Deltapoint to discuss options for counseling services. (We may be able to help organisations outside Brisbane to find a suitable psychologist).
